Internet User Terms
1. Usage of the Internet services provided under this Contract between Unipol Student Homes shall be strictly for Academic and Personal purposes only and shall not be used:
1.1 to provide anyone with commercial services (such as web advertising or “E-commerce”)
1.2 to provide network services (such as DNS, DHCP, Boot-up or other such services that may interfere with the normal running of the network);
1.3 to provide access to other users (for example by connecting a hub or modem to a networked PC). You are not allowed to connect any Wireless Access Point to the network.
2. You agree not to use the Internet services to:
2.1 send or otherwise make available to others any material that is offensive, obscene or indecent, or infringes the copyright of another person (for example, MP3 or audio or video formats). This could include file-sharing software and peer-to-peer networks;
2.2 cause annoyance, harassment, inconvenience or anxiety to others. Examples would include abusive or offensive e-mails;
2.3 access or attempt to gain access to, computer systems, data resources to which you are not authorised. This includes accessing or attempting to access other student’s computers;
2.4 access network services in such a way as to deny reasonable access to the network for other users, for example, by excessive use of network bandwidth.
3. You should also be aware of the possible security risks associated with connecting your computer to a network. It is your own responsibility to keep your computer free from malicious code (i.e. viruses, etc) and secure it against unauthorised access (i.e. hackers). You are strongly advised to take precautions such as installing up to date anti-virus software, personal firewalls (eg Zone Alarm) and applying any security “patches” issued by your operating system provider.
4. Misuse of the network facilities including, but not limited to, these listed above will be regarded as a serious matter. Misuse will result in the immediate termination of your network access with no refund.
5. All network traffic is logged and analysed for any “suspicious” activities, which can be traced back to the specific user. Should you be caught using the Internet for illegal activities of any kind you accept liability for any kind of disciplinary actions that may be taken against you.
6. Your internet connection will be terminated (a) when your tenancy ends or is surrendered; (b) if you are in breach of this Contract; or (c) if any payments (above £50) due and payable to Unipol are owing. On the occurrence of any of these events Unipol reserves the right to disconnect the service without further notice and with no refunds being due to you. Your use of the internet via the services provided is only valid to the extent that you have a right to be in the room where the service is being provided.
7. This Contract is personal to you and you may not transfer it to anyone else. No refunds are available if you no longer wish to use the Internet services.
8. Any work undertaken or software installed on your equipment or software supplied, by Unipol or its service providers, is at your own risk and in no circumstances shall Unipol be liable for any consequential or indirect loss or damage incurred by you or any third party. Nothing in this Clause limits Unipol's liability for death or personal injury to the extent that such limitation would be unlawful.
9. Unipol may choose to change service provider during the term of the agreement and there may be a loss of service for a short period whilst this change over takes place. No refunds will be made for this loss. You may need to re-register your details after any changeover.
10. You should also be aware that breach of these terms may also result in disciplinary action being taken by your college authorities and all suspected illegal activity will be reported to the police.
