Energy Supplements
Unipol operates a system of energy supplements throughout our developments and in a small selection of our properties, mainly bedsits sharing a supply. Tenants pay the energy supplement to Unipol as an addition to rent payments.
The supplement may cover all the utilities or it many only cover one (for example: gas) and liability for the other utility bills still falls on the tenant, so check your tenancy agreement to confirm what it applies to, or ring Unipol on 0113 2430169 option 3 Finance Department.
Rent supplements are paid to Unipol on rent days and the details of the cost is written in to the Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement.

The way it works
The weekly energy supplement charge is based on the previous years average useage in that particular building and we tend to estimate the price tenants pay per week, pretty acurately.
Academic Year 2010 - 2011, out of 94 flats in our largest building Mill Street around 90 flats got a refund of energy and the largest over-spend meant an additional £50.00 payment per tenant.
You will receive a statement twice a year and one at the end of your tenancy. The 2 statements during the year will give you a guide to your usage and whether you are on target or over using. This will allow you an opportunity to alter your energy usage behaviour. You can find useful tips about energy conservation in our Think Green leaflet.
What is the benefit for Unipol tenants?
Unipol can bulk buy energy so the rate you pay is cheaper than a standard domestic supply and we pass this benefit straight on to our tenants.
The Unipol term as an 'energy supplement' does not mean the energy is fully included, but does mean that as a tenant, you are not required to sort out these particular bills in the property or deal with energy suppliers.
Will it cost more?
At the end of the tenancy you may have to make an additional payment to cover the cost of the supply if you have overused, or alternatively you may receive a refund. The settling of the bill will not occur until the end of the tenancy and not before.
