Information for new students from Leeds Metropolitan University and Leeds College of Art living in Unipol Housing
What you should bring
You should bring items to make your room homely, things you need to study, in addition to bedding and cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery.
You will need:
- Bedding (sheets, duvets and pillows)
- Cooking utensils
- Pots and pans to cook with
- Cutlery - knives, forks and spoons
- Crockery - plates and bowls
- Towels
Some things you will only need one per flat, so do not buy them specially as you may end up with about 5. If you have them already, they may be worth bringing. When you arrive you can always shop with your housemates and each person buy one of the items (which will be useful for the following year).
- Kettle
- Toaster
- Microwave (provided at Royal Park & Garden House)
- Iron
So that you do not have to shop the moment you arrive, you may wish to bring:
- Tea
- Coffee
- Milk
- Toilet roll
- Breakfast cereal
- Basic foodstuffs (perhaps pasta, rice, oil, salt, pepper, sugar)

Parking
Parking is difficult in Leeds, like most large cities. Car parking around the Universities and colleges is extremely limited and even if you bring a car to Leeds, it is unlikely you will be able to drive to college. You can use the car park for the first two weeks of your tenancy.
Public transport in Leeds is good, and most of our developments are walking distance or a bike ride away.
The City Centre developments of Alexander Court, Mill Street, and New York Street have no parking and you are not permitted to bring a car with you.
Carlton Hill has severely limited parking and if you wish to use a car, you should ask for an application form now. Parking costs £180 for the year. There may be more people wanting spaces, than spaces available.
Royal Park and Cardigan Road have a slightly lower demand for spaces and you should ask for an application form when you collect your keys. For the first two weeks we allow you to come and go to drop off belongings without the need for a permit. Permits at these developments cost £105 for the year at Royal Park and £85 for Cardigan Road.
If you wish to apply for a parking permit, you can do so on-line via logging on to your accommodation account with Leeds Metropolitan University on or after 1st September. Your permit will be made available when collecting keys for the accommodation. If there are more people than spaces available, unsuccessful applications will go on a waiting list.
Special Needs
If you have special needs, you should talk to student or disability services within your college so that we can liaise with them regarding your parking requirements.
