Unipol is a non-profit-making charitable company, which works for the benefit of its student consumers.
Every year we help over 20,000 college and university students to find somewhere to live in the private rented sector in Leeds and Bradford. In addition, we provide some student accommodation direct, housing 2,000 students including 194 student families in self-catering provision. A small group of houses (around 25) are managed on behalf of private owners and let through a Management Agreement to Unipol tenants.
Most of the stock available to us is either our own or is leased under a number of partnerships with local housing associations, Leeds City Council or private companies. It is through these partnerships that Unipol has been able to develop purpose-converted, high quality accommodation specifically for students.
Unipol Properties
All Unipol houses and flats are designed with the particular needs of student tenants in mind. Safety, security and location are given a high priority, as is the provision of a high standard of amenity.
Our properties:
- are safe and secure
- are well designed
- are purpose converted
- are professionally managed
Housing Management Officers have their own groups of properties for which they are responsible. They are on hand for tenants to contact should a problem arise. All tenants get a handbook and tenancy information and are encouraged to a view a property before renting it.
Unipol operates a repair reporting system where repairs are logged on an advanced computerised reporting system. Through a dedicated Out of Hours Emergency Call Centre, Unipol has staff and contractors available for emergencies 24 hours a day throughout the year. Open during office hours (and at some weekends during the summer), a large central office deals with routine enquiries and offers help where it's needed.
Unipol's Tenants
- Unipol treats each tenant as a valued customer. We take consumer information seriously: for example all tenants are given guidance (usually in written form) on how all the appliances in a dwelling work.
- Unipol helps house tenants from all Leeds colleges and both universities as well as Bradford University and Bradford College Unipol has a number of special arrangements with the universities and colleges to house some of their students through linked allocations systems.
Standards
To help ensure good standards our properties:
- meet the Unipol Code of Standards (the voluntary accreditation scheme to which 80% of all student property owners in Leeds subscribe).
- meet the Code of Standards for Larger Developments (a national scheme for developments over 25 beds)
- meet the Leeds City Council Code of Standards (a voluntary accreditation scheme operated by the local authority).
