Review of Leeds Unipol Code for Shared Student Housing – Consultation Process
Unipol Student Homes has been reviewing the Leeds Code for shared student houses since October 2008.
The Code Review Group has now reached some agreement on a set of revised standards for a draft of the Code which it wishes to consult more widely on. It is planned that after this consultation any new Code will come into effect from August 1st 2009.
A first draft of this revised Code can be found here, along with a comparison document that highlights the proposed changes from the previous version of the Code here.
Some of the new requirements that owners may be expected to meet could be phased in over a period of time, especially in respect of the suggested enhanced fire safety and security issues. The Code Review Group has also suggested that some of the proposed changes could be optional and linked to the revised starred property standard, rather than be in the main Code section and I would welcome any views you have on that, together with any general views about the Code.
As part of our consultation process Unipol would like to ascertain the views of as many interested parties as possible. We would be grateful if you could give me any of your views, or raise any questions of detail or clarity, by not later than midday on Friday 24th April 2009.
Your comments can be e-mailed to myself at simon@unipol.leeds.ac.uk or sent to:

Comments and views received will be collated and a report will be written for circulation to the Code Review Group which will then consider them. I will also respond to representations, where appropriate. The report will also be available on the Unipol website shortly after April 24th
