Special House Hunting Mixing Events 2010

Every year, students who are starting courses at institutions in Leeds look for accommodation let by private owners. Although this can be a daunting process we can help you. Unipol works closely with the Universities and Colleges to organise House Hunting Mixing days where students can meet each other and look for houses. We assist you to make informed decisions, to choose a house and people that you are happy to live with.

Events for new to Leeds students

There are special house hunting mixing days for the following institutions: Leeds College of Art and Design; Leeds College of Music; Northern School of Contemporary Dance; Leeds Trinity University College; University of Leeds Postgraduate, PGCE and Mature students. Details of the events can be found below.

A special leaflet for prospective postgraduates can be viewed here

Special events for students already studying in Leeds (See Returners' Event below)

HousehuntingEvery year many students don’t fall naturally in to groups or are returning from gap years and are therefore left to house hunt on their own. Although this is now a lot easier, due to many more owners offering individual lets and the Unipol website displaying these in an easy to find way, it can still be daunting. Unipol will be using our expertise in staging house hunting events, providing a space where students can get specialist advice and help in finding other people to live with.  If sufficient people attend together then Unipol staff will help facilitate mixing to enable participants to look for houses together, if they wish. Details can be found below.

Unipol Student Homes will have staff available throughout the day to offer support and advice on all aspects of house hunting in the private sector. Staff will help you search the web, contact landlords and arrange viewings.

It is useful to have access to your own transport on these days if possible.

Before attending an event

You may want to do some preparatory work before coming to Leeds:-

You may want to look at the 'Student to Student Notice Board' on the web page and make contact with other students before the Mixing Days. You can leave a message in the "Looking to form a group" section.

Familiarise yourself with the website and search for properties so that you get a feel for what is available and what facilities you want in a house. Get used to navigating the site, selecting properties and using the clipboard facility.

Look at this website for information on housing guides, deposits and the house hunting checklist. In addition there is a detailed house hunting section covering areas such as who to live with, the best time to look for a house, housing myths, finding a good house and signing for a property. View this by using the following link, House hunting information 2010

Think about the type of property that you would like to live in and the type of people you want to live with.
