Managing the bills

A lot of first year halls accommodation will have the cost of the household bills included in the rent. It is essential that your child understands if they, or the landlord are responsible for the payment of the utilities so your child must check the terms of their contract (Tenancy Agreement).

Many landlords will not get involved with inter tenant disputes over household bills so it is important that your child receives the essential information about how to avoid problems early on. It would be helpful if you went through how to register with a supplier, how to take meter readings and how to make sure that all tenants provide their names to the suppliers. It is useful for you to discuss with your child how to keep energy consumption under control.
