Moving Out? Sort It Out.
Moving out this summer? Why not start sorting through your things now and save yourself stress later on?!
The winter wardrobe, Christmas decorations, things you simply haven’t used all year...if you’ve got stuff you no longer need, sorting it now will save you a lot of stress on moving day.
Our top tips are:
- Start early – Getting ahead on sorting your things will make you feel like a champion.
- Chat to your housemates – what’s happening to the shared stuff like the Christmas tree?
- Don't waste a trip – especially if there’s a car boot involved.
Barter it.
Can't give it a home? Find it a home.
There are lots of ways to give your things a new home and possibly even make some cash. Try online options such as, Vinted, webuybooks, Facebook Marketplace and the Leeds Student Group page.
You can also sell and swap in person at various upcoming events in Leeds and at Left Bank Junk Yard Sales:
Keep an eye out on this page for more events and updates.
Bank it.
Use donation banks in your area.
There are so many donation bank points across your area to help you declutter this Easter. You are never more than a short walk away from one. For exact locations have a look at this map.
Clothing, household items and books
Many of your local banks take all these items - look out for the big green Revive Reuse banks. Revive is a Community Interest Company who work in partnership with Leeds City Council. Profits support their two member charities SLATE and SVP.

Bin it.
Use the correct bin for your waste.
Use the correct bin for your waste.
When you are clearing out, you might have stuff that can’t be donated. Sort through your waste responsibly.
Use your green bin only for glass bottles and jars, paper, card, metals and plastic and the black bin for general rubbish. There’s a black bin collection every week. Make sure you make the most of every single one.
Only waste INSIDE your bin will be taken away. Don’t leave any items on the street or at the side of your bin to avoid getting dumped with a £200 fine.
Download the Leeds Bins app for bin day reminders – don’t forget to update it when you move.
Bulkier items can be dropped off at your local Recycling Centre.
To get more information visit Leeds Council's Bins, Waste, and Recycling Website.
