The Good Governance Code for the Voluntary and Community Sector

Unipol uses the Good Governance Code A Code for the Voluntary and Community Sector as a mechanism for reviewing governance processes and as working document which is revised, updated and reviewed by the Board annually to reflect any changes in governance.

In October 2010, an independent Group reviewed the earlier Code and issued a new Code which rewrote and revised the Code based around six principles for the organisation's governing body which are:

1. Understanding their role

2. Ensuring delivery of organisational purpose

3. Working effectively both as individuals and as a team

4. Exercising effective control

5. Behaving with integrity

6. Being open and accountable.

Although Unipol continues to use the previous Code to provide a useful, and comparable, operational framework for reviewing governance matters Unipol's trustees both endorse and subscribe to the six principles of the new Code and have ensured that they are followed in the ongoing governance of the charity.
