Really Understanding Student Housing standards
An intensive three day residential training course on how to assess risk and how the Housing Health and Safety Ratings System works for those involved in the management and running of student accommodation
Synopsis
This three day course is designed to provided in-depth practical training to all of those involved in health and safety and risk based calculations in running and managing student accommodation.
Recent regulation, legislation and the operation of the Housing Health and Safety Ratings system will form the core of the course.
The course involved hand-on assessments and the second day is taken up with inspecting two very different (and occupied) buildings and then making an assessment of those buildings for the purposes of management, disrepair and risk: the three principles that underlie all property management.
We are fortunate to have the course led by Mr Philip Moxon, an independent environmental health officer who worked on the development of the HHSRS and who has undertaken risk based assessments on several thousand student bed spaces for over 20 educational institutions and other providers.
Philip Moxon has had a specialist interest in student housing for over 20 years and fully understands the issues, problems and challenges connected to student housing.
The participative nature of the event will highlight the different approaches needed to both institutionally provided and private sector accommodation.
This course will be relevant to all staff involved in health and safety assessment implementation and management and will also provide a good update for those with experience in this area.
Because of its participative nature, the course will be limited to a maximum of 25 participants.
