Hilary Crook

A solicitor with a detailed knowledge of student housing rights and tenancy contractual issues, human rights, disability discrimination, unfair terms of trade and distance selling as well as general issues relating to property law. Hilary has acted for a large number of educational institutions over the past few years and is an acknowledged leader in her field.

Neil Marsden

Neil is a co-founder of the Accreditation Network UK (ANUK) and was the officer in charge of implementation of the Housing Act for Leeds. He is a leading advocate for partnership working within the private sector and the use of accreditation as a vital tool in the housing supply relationship. He is also an acknowledged expert on noise nuisance and housing standards as well as managing the private sector.

John Martin

A barrister, looks at housing legal issues mainly from a tenant point of view, advocating on behalf of the tenant. An established figure in the world of tenant advice he has taken part in, and had a significant influence on the recent Law Commission review of tenure. He is also Chair of the National Code of Standards Tribunal. John Martin and Hilary Crook together provide a dynamic explanation of the uses and extent of legal intervention in student housing and accommodation.

Philip Moxon

A qualified Environmental Health Officer with over 30 years experience as a housing professional with memberships of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Royal Society of Health, and the Chartered Institute of Housing. Philip has worked for a number of local authorities and during his time at a large West Midlands City Council, specialised in the enforcement of housing standards in the private rented sector with particular emphasis on houses in multiple occupation. He began working for UNIPOL as a trainer in 1988 and has lectured extensively at the University of Central England eventually being awarded a Visiting Fellowship to the School of Housing in 1997. In 2001 he established his own consultancy specialising in risk assessment of student accommodation and other properties in the private rented sector in accordance with the Housing Health and Safety Rating System and in 2003 Philip was selected to be a national trainer on the Housing Health and Safety Rating System and statutory enforcement under Parts 1 and 2 of the Housing Act 2004 and has delivered training courses for local authority staff and other organisations.

Unipol also has a training link with the National Union of Students.

Aside from this core team, Unipol has many guest speakers (academics, architects, surveyors, housing association personnel, vice chancellors, students' union officials and international speakers).

Many of these student housing professionals make their time and expertise available for free or for very low fees in order that others can learn from their experience and expertise.
