House Hunting at the Unipol Outlet at LUU

Answer: House Hunting, house hunting and more house hunting!
House Hunting is well underway. Unipol have lots of publications available for you to make the whole process of finding a property for next year smooth and hassle free. Just follow a few golden rules and you won't go wrong.
- Read the publications - the House Hunting Guide 2012 and the January Tabloid (copies available across university and from Unipol)
- Pick your area and flatmates carefully and be prepared to compromise if necessary
- Make the Unipol website your first stop - the largest database of student properties in Leeds
- Choose a property from a Unipol Code landlord - check the list of accredited landlords
- Get your contract checked - no time to drop by? Try using LUU's ONLINE contract checking service
- Sign up and get details of where your deposit will be held
- Sit back and relax
Outlet staff will be walking around and talking to students throughout this time offering advice on how to make your house hunt successful!
They will be able to advise you on:
- How and why negotiate?
- What to negotiate on?
- When to start house hunting?
- Why do you get a better deal if you wait?
- Why research the market?
- Why to rent a Unipol Code property?

Concerned about your housing?
On Thursday 23rd February, betweem 12.30pm and 4pm staff from the Student Advice Centre will be downstairs in the Unipol Outlet running a specialist drop in service to give you the knowledge and skills to deal with potential housing troubles before they become a problem.
Amongst over queries, you can find out how to:
- check if your landlord has protected your deposit,
- check if your landlord is adhering to the Unipol Code.
- check if your property is properly licensed,
We will also give you letters you can send to deal with these problems. Whether you are concerned about your house or your landlord, or if you just want to find out more these sessions are for you.
The Service
The Unipol Outlet in the Union enables students to access the housing services on offer by both Unipol and LUU from within the Union building.
The unit features a fantastic 82 inch touch screen wall which enables students to search for accommodation interactively within a giant map of Leeds.
The Outlet enables students to:
- access general drop advice; particularly in the areas of house hunting, contract checking, disrepair and deposit protection
- increase awareness of the importance of the Unipol Code and housing standards
- raise awareness of Unipol's and the Union's overall housing services
- use computer facilities to enable the Unipol website to be viewed
In addition, students can book viewings of Unipol properties and make appointments to see LUU advice centre staff.
