RMP Properties

As has been reported in both Leeds Student and The Met, RMP Properties have been put into administration due to financial problems. An administrator – Rod Butcher of Butcher Woods – has been brought in to manage the company’s affairs and the mortgage kinder have employed receivers to collect rental payments from RMP’s tenants.

However, apart from RMP’s tenants having to change their standing orders so that rent is paid into a different account than before, the financial problems are unlikely to have any impact on RMP’s existing tenants. Staff of RMP will continue to serve tenants’ needs and there will be no drastic changes to existing tenancy agreements. Deposits paid by current tenants have been protected and will be returned, subject to the usual requirements of keeping within the terms of the tenancy agreement, at the end of the tenancy.

RMP are expected to advertise properties via Unipol again in January and will remain full members of the Code of Standards, subject to the outcome of a series of compliance check inspections to be carried out on their properties.

Some former tenants of RMP may experience difficulties when attempting to bank cheques for returned deposits. The receivers who have been employed by the mortgage lender to RMP, Redbrick Survey and Valuation Limited, may be willing to honour such cheques, otherwise former tenants will need to apply to become creditors of RMP. All former tenants who find themselves in such a position should contact either their student union advice service or Simon Kemp at Unipol.
