Overview

Grayson Heights opened its doors to tenants for the first time in September 2007. It is specially designed to accommodate a mix of students – couples, families with children, and groups of postgraduate students from the University of Leeds. The building is managed by Unipol Student Homes and tenants will sign either a University of Leeds licence (postgraduates in shared flats) or an Assured Shorthold Tenancy with Unipol (couple/family flats).

It has:

  • 24 flats for couples/families
  • 22 shared flats for postgraduates
  • on-site reception, open daily
  • residential student wardens

Family flats are fully furnished and comprise a separate lounge and separate kitchen with two bedrooms. Postgraduate flats are fully furnished and comprise a separate lounge and separate kitchen with five lockable study bedrooms. All flats are allocated by University of Leeds Accommodation Office and therefore are all Leeds University students.

Grayson Heights is 2.5 miles (4km) from Leeds University campus. It is the same distance from the city centre and has stunning views over the Kirkstall Valley.  The building is located very close to two of the main bus routes into the city along Burley Road and Kirkstall Road. Headingley train station is only a 10-minute walk. Trains on the Harrogate line go to Leeds city centre one way and Harrogate / York the other. Local facilities include Kirkstall Leisure Centre, and Morrisons supermarket and it is only a short walk up to Headingley town centre.

Parking and bikes

There is car park with limited spaces. A permit system operates at a cost per term. Tenants should apply directly to the University of Leeds Accommodation Office. There is a secure bike store on site, which can be used by all tenants.

Facilities

The flats have been renovated to a high standard including the fitting of energy-efficient heating systems, double-glazed windows, well designed kitchens and modern bathrooms with showers.

Utilities

Family tenants pay Unipol monthly for the cost of electricity. Water is included and there is no gas in the building. Postgraduate flats have energy included in the rent.

TV, phone and internet

Telephone sockets (subject to reconnection to the network at the tenants' expense) are fitted in each flat and television aerial sockets are provided in the lounge. There is an integrated digital satellite reception system point in each flat. A WiFi internet service is included in the rent and is provided by Leeds University's Information Systems Service (ISS).

Security

Entry to the flats is via a spacious reception area with seating and a reception desk. The building has two lifts which take you to different floors of the building. It is secured with access by swipe fob for tenants and entry phone for visitors. CCTV images of the entry points are delivered to tenants’ own televisions, which means you can see who is calling before you let them in. Leeds University security does routine dog section patrols of the building.
