Mental health in student accommodation.
It is no secret that student mental health is at a crisis point for many students. Across the country, one student death was recorded per week last semester. Although students, in some cases have more support than ever the complex cases, wait time and stigma, still causes much distress for those who need it.
We have seen over the last few years, organisations change their approach and methods to supporting students who are struggling by educating their teams, investing in resources and growing support networks. Due to COVID much of the support we put in place has had to adapt. Does the sector have a plan in place to keep up with the changing needs of students struggling with ill mental health post COVID?
With high demand for support, staff burnouts across teams, students spending extended periods in front of screens due to online learning and little / no face-to-face interactions, we have to ask ourselves, how are we as a sector going to manage?
This session will look at:
- Types of cases and trends (Impacts of COVID)
- The challenges we are facing
- What’s worked and what hasn’t
- What is on offer to students who are in crisis / struggling
- Thinking of the future, what plans do you have in place to continue and grow student support in accommodation? (Impacts post COVID)
