Synopsis

Perhaps certainty is a thing of the past. Student accommodation providers have moved from the calm waters of gradual and even expansion into a maelstrom of uncertainty:

• Higher education is increasingly competitive in a static or slightly declining market

• International students have to be hard won in a hostile immigration climate

• No one appears to know what will happen to European student numbers year on year

• Student accommodation providers are facing rising land and building costs and yet affordability is the order of the day

• The “winners” and “losers” in the battle for students make some investments increasingly unstable.

This one day conference aims to chart a way through these choppy waters and move on from the outdated hype that has recently surrounded the development of new student accommodation.

The day will look at:

• Future home, international and European demand from students the development of institutional accommodation strategies and what use they are?

• Whether valuations are overtaking revenue?

• How development trends are proceeding - and is it all over for new London student PBSA?

• How the wider housing crisis and Grenfell are likely to affect the regulatory environment for PBSA, both private and institutional?

The day brings together a number of industry and institutional leaders in the world of higher education and student accommodation to give a variety of views enabling delegates to make up their own minds on how best to future-proof forward decision making.
