How Energy Efficient are Student Houses and Complexes?

Unipol analysed all of the EPC information (from January to June 2011) on their website and counted the number of off street properties in each band to give you an idea of the average energy efficiency rating in a student property. There are no A banded properties and only a few B banded properties but there are a growing number of C and D banded properties which, for mainly 19th century terrace housing, is indicative of a relatively good energy rating. The properties rated F and G are clearly ones to watch. These are likely to be both expensive and difficult, to heat.

For comparative purposes, a new build complex which is electrically heated generally scores a D and if it is gas heated it will score a C.
