When moving out of your student home, sort through your belongings responsibly.
One more bin bag donated to charity = one less bin bag going to landfill.
Beginning to de-clutter now will make your life easier when it comes to moving out and it means you can get rid of your things in a more sustainable way.
In just a month or two, you have to empty everything from your house. It can be a stressful time.
Here are some easy things you can do to help your community, as well as making your moving out experience less stressful.
An early trip to the bottle bin
We understand that it can be frustrating if there are no glass recycling collections in your district. Trips to the bottle bank aren't always in the forefront of our minds. Don't waste a journey! If you're going somewhere and you know there is a bottle bank on the way, just take what you can with you and drop it off while you're on your way. This makes it less of a chore, and it means that it's not something you're worrying about on your last day.
Find information about your local glass recycling on the Nottingham Council Website.
Donating unwanted items to charity
There are a number of charities in Nottingham that want donations of clothes - particularly homeless charities. Have a couple of T-shirts that you don't want or need anymore, but are still in good condition? Why not donate them to The Friary Homeless Charity?
A lot of students have electrical appliances that they no longer need when they move house which still work perfectly. Throwing these away is such a waste when they can be donated and redistributed to those who need them but may not be able to afford them new.
