Details
The Renters’ Rights Bill will soon be law and will bring about a sea-change in the private rented sector. The Government has given particular concessions to members of the ANUK/Unipol National Codes in the Bill, and this webinar will provide purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) operators who are either members or considering membership an insight into the features of the Bill.
The Bill is likely to receive Royal Assent and be enacted during the 2025 – 2026 academic year, so PBSA operators need to understand the legal framework and their new obligations now so that they can prepare for the change. This webinar will provide an overview of the changes and an opportunity to ask questions.
In addition, the National Codes are currently out for review with a public consultation underway. The webinar will include detail on the proposed changes and an update on progress with the review.
This webinar will be led by Hilary Crook, Solicitor, Hatch Legal, an expert in the field of student accommodation and Higher Education, and Victoria Tolmie-Loverseed, Director of Standards at Unipol Student Homes, the operators of the ANUK/Unipol National Codes.
Attendees are encouraged to submit questions in advance to conferences@unipol.org.uk.
Join us at this webinar to understand the main aspects of the Bill:
- The proposed exemption for members of the National Codes - What is it? What will members be exempt from within the new Bill and from existing legislation. How might it work? When might it happen?
- Tenancy Types – what is
- a tenancy agreement
- a tenancy
- an assured tenancy
- an assured shorthold tenancy
- a common law tenancy
- The abolition of assured shorthold tenancies:
Why, when and how will this take place?
How will the transition to common law tenancies work?
What does this mean for me and how do I deal with:
- existing assured shorthold tenancies and any transitional arrangements?
- new tenancy agreements made before the legislation comes into force?
- contracts made after the legislation comes into force?
- What will be different about common law tenancies?
- Changes to the Approved Code of Practice
- Will anything stay the same?
